Softcare's Duramax is now available for the SCO OpenServer 5.04-5.06 operating systems. http://www.sco.com

STEP123 or Duramax Application Server what's the difference?

Duramax and STEP123 are DMERC billing and accounting products for medical supply, respiratory, and IV pharmacies. Duramax is Softcare's more robost application. Duramax runs only on Unix. Duramax and Step123 functionally are the same product. The menus look somewhat alike and the overall operation is nearly the same. Duramax will not run under Windows console. However, Duramax can be part of a Windows9x/NT/2000 platform using our Windows client software. Think of the Duramax Application server as just part of your Window9x//NT/2000 network. They can co-exist easily. We also have a secure front-end program for Windows95/NT that accesses Duramax from the internet. Duramax runs over the internet effortlessly because it runs on Unix.  Unix is a much easier operating system to administer over the internet.  The internet was developed with Unix in mind.

STEP123 runs best on a Windows/NT/2000 server with Windows/NT/2000 Pro Workstation running at everyone's desk. This is a much more stable platform for running multi-user STEP123.   Softcare will not support STEP123 running on Windows9x in the multi-user mode, however, many Softcare customers are running STEP123 on Window9x in the multi-user mode just fine, we just don't think you should.  Win9x is not a stable platform for using shared resources.

How about all that paper.

Printers do jam, but Duramax sends all nightly reports to a named file. If the operator comes in and finds the printer has jammed the saved files can be re-printed, without having to re-run the program.

Real Time Filing, RTF

Duramax allows timed background programs to be run via the Unix cron utility. Cron allows all of Duramax's tasked to be automated to run at any pre-determined time.

Duramax comes with an automated cron utility called 'Real Time Filing'. Real Time Filing automatically runs order processing, which creates the periodic claims for rental billing,
and also picks up any claim that has been released for processing. Once the order processing program finishes the HCFA1500 paper and electronic claims program kicks in and creates any paper claims required, assimilates the electronic file and then transmits the file(s) to the appropriate EMC Carrier.

Real Time Filing, RTF, is usually setup to run each night. RTF, inches through the month each night. At the end of the month RTF can be set up to automatically close out the month and produce all reports. All of this frees the operator from having do anything but data entry.

Softcare finishes BigRed for Windows 95/98/NT/2000.

When someone purchased BigRed for DOS, they all had one question, "When will the windows version be available?"   BigRed is a document centered form filer for 1500 forms.  BigRed for Windows differs from the MS-DOS version in that the 1500 form is more realistic, there are pop-up files that can be developed for all fields.  There are cut and paste features for creating templates to be used over an over.  BigRed for DOS uses MS-ISAM as the file handler, BigRed for Windows uses the Jet database (mdb) format the same database used by MS Access. Click here to download a demo, or here for screen shots.

What kind of company needs BigRed for Windows.  Here are few examples of the types of business who have purchased Bigred.

  • Physician offices wanting to create 1500 forms for their patients,
  • Small HME Suppliers or Custom wheelchair suppliers,
  • Psychologist, Chiropractors
  • Ambulance para-medic businesses,
  • Billing services.
